I was looking for a cheap budget hotel in Manhattan, New York, NY. When I searched Priceline and Travelocity for affordable NYC hotels, I excluded hostels and hotels without private bathrooms. To my delight, I was left with a surprisingly good selection of NYC hotels with rates under $150 per night.
The Holiday Inn Express is located on West 39, between 8th and 9th Avenues. The convenient location is near Times Square and a short walk from the A, C, and E subway lines. I walked to the Holiday Inn Express from Amtrak’s Penn Station. The Holiday Inn Express is also convenient to the Port Authority Bus Station and Grand Central Station.
My review of the Holiday Inn Express is pretty good. I liked the free internet and free breakfast. Cable television and a Keurig machine in the room was icing on the cake.
Don’t expect the staff at the Holiday Inn Express to wait on you hand and foot. This hotel is best suited for low maintenance travelers who don’t need the embellishments of a five star hotel.
As far as negatives, the hotel’s two elevators were taxed at peak times, and the breakfast buffet was very busy. But as far as I was concerned, waiting for pancakes and a lift is a small price to pay for a clean and affordable Manhattan hotel.
